Every few weeks somebody calls here wanting front suitcase weights for a New Generation Deere — a 4020 that gets light in the front with a heavy mounted implement, a 3020 doing tillage, a 5020 or 6030 that needs serious nose ballast. The weights are easy to find. The bracket is easy to find. What trips people up is the piece in between.
The problem with just bolting a bracket on
The front weight support brackets for these tractors — AR92425, R70417, AR58363, R51679 — bolt to the front frame. That whole stack of weights is cantilevered out in front of the tractor, carried by just two mounting bolts. Four 100-pound weights is 400+ lbs hanging off the nose, and it's not a static load — it's cycling every time the front end bounces across a rough field.
Run that on the bolts alone and you get exactly what you'd expect: bent bolts, elongated holes, a bracket that works loose and starts walking. Plenty of these tractors have dropped a full rack of weights in the field for exactly this reason.
What the adapter does
Deere knew this, which is why the factory setup was never just bracket-and-weights. The R52914 adapter installs between the weight bracket support and the tractor frame, spreading the load across a wider footprint instead of concentrating it on the mounting bolts. It's what makes a full stack of weights survivable — the bracket and adapter were designed to work together from the start.
The catch: it's no longer available from Deere
R52914 is no longer available from Deere, and salvage yards get picked clean of them fast — we know, because we're one of them.
