The YM225 opens Yanmar's YM2 Series, a step up in both size and intent from the SA machines. Where a subcompact is sized for a large yard, the YM2 is rated for 25 to 45 acres. Its 24.4-horsepower Yanmar diesel turns a Synchronized Reverser Transmission with eight forward and eight reverse gears.
That transmission is the reason to look at this machine. The forward/reverse shift sits on the steering column, so changing direction is a flick of the wrist instead of a foot dance. If most of your hours are loader hours, you'll feel it by the end of the first afternoon.
How much can the YM225 lift?
The YL405 front loader lifts 1,500 lb at the pivot pin to its maximum height of 88.3 inches, with 2,500 lb of breakout force. That's genuine material-handling capacity in a tractor still small enough to work where a utility machine can't turn around.
The Category 1 three-point hitch lifts 2,205 lb at the standard rating and 1,609 lb measured 24 inches behind the lift point. The rear PTO turns 540 RPM at 2,360 engine RPM and delivers 18.5 HP.

The YM225 is built to be specified rather than bought off a shelf. A canopy kit, deluxe suspension seat, LED work light, backhoe, single-spool rear remote, and a third-function kit for running a grapple are all available. The third-function kit in particular changes what the loader can do, so it's worth deciding before delivery rather than after.
Choosing your tires
The YM225 is offered with R1 agricultural, R3 turf, or R4 industrial tires. R1 bites in worked soil and is the choice if you're pulling ground-engaging implements. R3 protects finished lawn. R4 sits between them with a tough sidewall for gravel and construction debris. This is the one decision on the order form that's genuinely hard to change later.
