The most tractor in the YM2 Series
The YM238 is the top of Yanmar's YM2 range at 38.2 horsepower gross with 31.9 HP at the PTO. It keeps everything that makes the series work, including the 8x8 Synchronized Reverser Transmission with its column-mounted forward/reverse shuttle, and adds the headroom you need when implements get wide and ground gets heavy.
It's also the only model in the series available with a turbo.
What the turbo actually changes
Yanmar offers the YM238 in a turbocharged version, and the gains are the ones you'd expect from forced induction on a small diesel: more power and more torque from the same displacement, better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, less noise, and noticeably better performance at altitude. If you're working sustained loads rather than short bursts, it's the version to ask about.
What it lifts and pulls
The YL405 loader lifts 1,500 lb at the pivot pin to 88.3 inches with 2,500 lb of breakout force, the same as the rest of the series. The extra engine horsepower shows up in how quickly it cycles under load rather than in the lift rating.
The Category 1 three-point hitch handles 2,205 lb standard and 1,609 lb at 24 inches behind the lift point. Implement hydraulics flow 6.8 GPM.
Setting it up your way
Canopy kit, deluxe suspension seat, LED work light, backhoe, single-spool rear remote, and a third-function kit are all on the options list. With 31.9 PTO horsepower on tap, this is the model where a backhoe attachment makes the most sense.
